PADI Discover Scuba Diving Malta – Beginner Try Dive

Discover Scuba Diving is a fun, first-time scuba lesson for complete beginners in Malta — no experience needed, for anyone aged 10 and over. It is the perfect way to try diving on holiday and see whether the underwater world is for you.

Sessions run in the afternoons, meeting at the dive centre at 13:00 on any day except Sunday (subject to availability). The session lasts around two hours in total — a short explanation, kitting up, the dive itself, then de-kitting and the transfer back — with roughly 40 to 50 minutes actually spent in the water. You will enjoy the undersea environment up close, watching fish and experiencing what it is like to be completely weightless. Afterwards, your instructor can sign your dive off in your own log book, yours to keep as a memento of your first scuba experience.

Who can book a session?

Discover Scuba is open to any fit person aged 10 or over. There is no maximum age, as long as you are fit and not taking medication. All participants complete a standard medical statement, and anyone under 18 needs written parental consent. If you have any questions about your fitness or a medical condition, please get in touch — it is always better to sort out any queries before your lesson. For enquiries, call us on 00356 2157 1111; for text or WhatsApp messages, use 00356 9957 1111; or email dive@maltaqua.com.

Do I need to be able to swim?

Yes — you need to be able to swim a short distance unaided, but you do not need to be a strong swimmer.

When do sessions run?

Every afternoon except Sunday: meeting at the dive centre at 13:00 and back at around 16:00.

Which dive sites will we visit?

We choose the site on the day based on the wind direction, to make sure your first lesson is in a calm, sheltered bay. We have a good choice of sheltered spots we use for first-time lessons, so we will always find a good location for the conditions.

How many people per instructor?

We always provide one instructor for every two participants — a Maltaqua guarantee we uphold even in high season, so you get the very best from your first lesson. If you are a family or group of friends, we keep you together in the same location while making sure there are enough instructors for everyone to be well looked after in the water.

What should we bring?

Please leave valuables at home — no expensive jewellery, watches, passports and so on. All you need is a comfortable swimsuit, a towel and a change of dry clothes for afterwards (if you are using our transport, you will need to be in dry clothes for the journey back). In high season, bring sun protection and a refillable water bottle, which you can top up at the centre before heading out. We provide all the dive equipment you will need.
